Welcome to The University of Queensland Gatton Campus Halls of Residence!

On behalf of all the staff here at “the Halls” it is our pleasure to welcome you to Gatton Campus for your Residential School. We are a “not for profit” department of the University and as such, endeavour to provide cost effective and appropriate accommodation to external students of the University for the duration of their Residential School. 

It is always a pleasure to have external students here on site and we trust that you have a comfortable and productive stay. Please do not hesitate to contact us before, during, or after your stay if you have any questions or concerns about your accommodation.

Accommodation

If you have any requirements or problems to do with your accommodation, please contact the Halls of Residence Reception between the hours of 8.00am and 4:30pm weekdays on (07) 5460 1489 or come and see us at reception.

Meals

Your accommodation fee includes three meals per day served in the Dining Hall (Building 8125)

You are required to wear the lanyard (given to you with your key on arrival) to receive meals.
The lanyard must be visible during the entire meal not tucked in your shirt - in other words... “no lanyard, no meal”.

Generally, your first meal will be dinner on the first night of your accommodation, and the final meal will be lunch on your last day.

* No refunds will be made for meals not taken.

Breakfast 7.am - 9am
Lunch 11.30am - 1.30pm
Dinner 5:30pm to 6:30pm

 

Tuesday to Friday

If you have special dietary requirements, or will have difficulty having meals because of the times the dining hall is open, you are encouraged to speak with the Catering Manager on the day of your arrival. Please note that vegetarian options are available at each meal.

All food must be consumed in the dining hall and the taking of food away from the dining hall is prohibited.

Departure  

Keys must be returned to the Halls of Residence office between 8.00am and 9.00am on the day of departure.

Please note: Rooms must be vacated and keys returned to the Halls of Residence Reception desk (or key box beside door), strictly no later than 9:00am on the date of departure so that they can be serviced for incoming students. If you do not vacate your room by 9:00am, you are liable to be charged an extra night’s tariff.

Please return the key in the envelope it was issued with.

You can return your meal lanyard to the Halls Office after lunch on the day of departure.

Failure to return your key and lanyard on the day of departure will incur a $50.00 replacement cost.

Bags may be left at reception on the day of departure (weekdays only)however they must be collected by 4:30pm as the office will be closed after this time. If you are departing on the weekend and need to store your bags, please advise us and we will attempt to make alternate arrangements for storage of your bags. 

Noise

In order to avoid disturbing other residents, the common areas should not be used for noisy gatherings. Remember some may have exams or special assignments due the next day and need their sleep.

Residence absolute quiet hours are between 10:00pm and 6:30am

During this time any noise or loud talking or music in bedrooms, should not be able to be heard in the room next door.

Offenders of the noise policy will be asked to leave the Halls of Residence.

No Smoking

Australian law prohibits smoking within 4 metres of any building. The Halls have a NO SMOKING policy.

Heaters

There is a heater in your room (permanent fixture). Under no circumstances are you permitted to use a blow or bar heater or cooking appliances etc. in your room due to strict fire regulations.

Laundry

Washing machines and dryers are available for you to use and are located in the laundry attached to a block adjacent to the common room. There is no charge for the use of these machines.

Cleaning

The cleaning staff are only here in the mornings so if you have any cleaning requirements or special needs please contact us early in the day and we can usually accommodate. Bathrooms are cleaned daily.

The Common Room

The common room attached to your accommodation is for you to enjoy. You will find a TV and equipped kitchen. You will also find tea and coffee making supplies in the common room kitchen. We ask you to keep it clean so others may also enjoy.

Maintenance

If during the course of your stay you become aware of any maintenance issues in your room or in the area in which you are staying, we would appreciate you taking the time to advise us. Computers and Internet Access

As an external student you have access to the computer laboratories in the library (check details through the library). Wireless internet is available– please follow the prompts on your computer to set up wireless internet. Alternatively there is an Ethernet/LAN connection in all Hall’s rooms. Please note the Halls do not offer any I.T. assistance or trouble shooting during Residential School.

Lock outs

If you lock yourself out of your room contact the after-hours duty staff on 0411158252. A $50 call out fee will be charged between 10:00pm and 6:30am.

Bookstore

The Bookstore is located at the Dinning Hall closest to the Walkway Cafe (building 8125)

Public Telephones

There are two public telephones on campus. One is located outside the N.W. Britton Building (Building 8101), the other is located outside the Foundation Building (Building 8118).

Banking

The Commonwealth Bank have an automatic teller machine (ATM) on campus. The machine is located in the foyer of the N.W. Briton Building (Building 8101), UQ Gatton’s main administration centre and can be accessed 24 hours a day.

Post Office

The Post Office/University Cashier is located at the end of the N.W. Briton Building (Building 8101), UQ Gatton’s main administration centre. Opening Hours: 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

Health Services

Gatton Health Services is located on Ground floor, N W Britton Annexe, (Admin Annexe) (Building 8101a)

Practice Hours -Monday - Friday 8.30am - 4.15pm

Appointments Please phone (07) 5460 1396 for an appointment with a doctor. No appointment is necessary to see the registered nurse.
Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time. Emergencies will always be given priority and our reception staff will attempt to contact you if there is any unforeseen delay, or your doctor has been delayed.

After hours arrangements Urgent medical assistance after hours can be obtained at either:

Gatton Hospital, 97 William Street, Gatton, 5462 0110
Laidley Hospital, 75 William Street, Laidley, 5465 8100

These are public hospitals and provide free care to Australian residents.

Security

Security Officers are available 24 hours a day on 3365 1234, or you can visit the security office which is located at the end of the N.W. Briton Building (Building 8101) at the front entrance of the Campus.

For all other emergency services (ambulance, fire, police) please phone security on 53333 or 3365 3333 and advise which service is required and the location. An operator will assist you.
